Special Olympics

On Friday the 1st, I got a call from Cathy Konopnicki while I was at work. She was calling to let me know that Sara was participating in the special olympics at MCC that day and also on Saturday. I was so excited that she called!!! So, on Saturday Morning, I got up and went to watch Sara do her "softball throw". It was the cutest thing I have ever seen. I do not know how anyone could be there around all of those special spirits and not be touched. Sara was sitting under a canopy waiting to get her award just patiently sitting...waiting. She didn't know I was there and that I had been watching her. So, I went closer to where she was and in plain view and called her name. She was holding a cup of water and she got so excited to see me, she dropped the cup and was waving at me with the biggest smile with both hands!!! I gave her a thumbs up and of course, she gave one back! A lady stepped between us so that we couldn't see each other anymore but I could see Sara poke her head around the lady's butt to make sure that I was still there.

Then, she got to go and get her award on the stand. She walked up there so proud and was just waving at everyone like she was on top of the world. They put her ribbon around her neck and she just kept holding it, looking at it, and had a grin on her sweet face that would not go away. The only way to describe it is that it just melted my heart!!!

They instructed the children to get off the stand and she came running over to me and gave me a huge hug and showed me her ribbon. She was so proud of it!

We were walking back to where the rest of her friends were, holding hands, and she would just hold it up and look at it. As we were walking, the other children that were participating kept telling her good job, gave her high fives, thumbs up, even tried to give her hugs and they didn't even know her. They were just so excited for each other and showed endless love.

We got back to the rest of the Gila Valley group and her really good friend Christopher was there. She said, "LOOK CHRISTOPHER...I GOT A RIBBON!" He said back to her, "COOL SARA, LOOK, I GOT A METAL FOR LONG JUMP!" Then, they put their arms around each other to take the best picture! I love how she is looking up at Christopher just adoring him!

I love that little girl so much. I would honestly do ANYTHING for her! Thanks Cathy, for giving me a call. It was exactly what I needed! :)

Hey Tabitha, I'm so glad that you found our blog. It's so nice to catch up with friends and stay updated. The special olympics are really fun and give you such a good feeling. I love your garden. I need to do something like that. I hate having just rocks and desert plants. Take care!
